SkyDOS White Paper

A photorealistic virtual world you enter through a web browser or a virtual reality headset: an artificial universe, a place to try out what is coming before it happens.

Version 1.0 · 28 October 2026 · Author: David Do — SkyDOS · www.skydos.com

The SkyDOS floating island above a sea of clouds, with the Zun tower at its centre

Summary

SkyDOS is a photorealistic virtual world that runs directly in a web browser and can be explored on foot with Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest headsets, with nothing to install. The world is a floating island 9.6 km across, with the 900 m Zun tower, a city, an art gallery, a zoo, mountains, waterfalls and a diving sea more than a kilometre deep. The number one goal is to be as true to life as possible.

SkyDOS is created and run by David Do and is publicly live at www.skydos.com. As of 28 October 2026, the project has 56 ideas with identifiers: 15 are live for everyone, 18 are in progress or in internal preview, and 23 are at the design stage.

Interface languages

SkyDOS rests on three guiding pillars:

  1. An artificial universe: one shared world for everyone to live, play, explore, meet and hold ceremonies in.
  2. A safe proving ground: a place where governments, organisations and individuals can test new programmes, ideas and rules with real people before applying them in real life.
  3. One world, every device: the browser today; mobile apps, headsets, TVs, AI glasses and robots in later phases.

Individual users are free for roughly the first year; visiting SkyDOS is always free. SkyDOS does not sell virtual land, does not issue NFTs or tokens with monetary value, has no loot boxes and does not sell personal data.

1Vision and positioning

SkyDOS started from one question: how real can a virtual world look if all the expensive computation is done at build time, so that the headset on the viewer's head only has to display it? The answer is an island with precomputed late-afternoon light, true to scale down to every step and traffic lane, that opens directly in a web browser.

Positioning: "an artificial universe"

SkyDOS positions itself as the first artificial universe in virtual reality: one shared, persistent world with cities, nature, festivals, games and things real life cannot offer (flapping your arms to fly, diving a kilometre down into the deep, riding a dragon). This is the project's positioning line, not a claim verified by a third party.

An added layer: "a place to try out what is coming"

The artificial universe is what SkyDOS is; the proving ground is one useful thing that universe can do for real life. The combined line used on the introduction page: "The first artificial universe, a place to try out what is coming before it happens."

"SkyDOS là nơi mọi chính phủ, tổ chức, cá nhân... có thể thử nghiệm được các chương trình, ý tưởng, logic... mới mà ít có tác động tiêu cực nhất trước khi được ứng dụng thực tế..."

Translation: "SkyDOS is a place where every government, organisation, individual... can test new programmes, ideas, logic... with the least negative impact before they are applied in practice..."

— David Do, 28 October 2026

Aesthetic principles

  • As true to life as possible: key objects use real, licensed models, not rough code-built stand-ins.
  • A future world: streets, vehicles and objects in a futuristic style.
  • Every species on Earth: the long-term goal is to include every animal and plant species; the more flowers, the better.
  • One coherent world: map, design and state stay in sync across every activity.

2Context and opportunity

High-end virtual reality headsets now ship with browsers that support WebXR, which means a web page can take a headset wearer into a full 3D world without going through an app store. At the same time, several large virtual world platforms have scaled back their virtual reality or user-generated content efforts because of cost. What remains open is a world that is:

  • entered instantly from a link, on computers, phones and headsets;
  • beautiful enough to stand inside with a headset, rather than simple game-style graphics;
  • worth coming back to: sightseeing, education, festivals, friends, events;
  • and later lets users build their own worlds with artificial intelligence, then connects those worlds through an open standard.

SkyDOS's priority audience is Vietnam and Asia; servers are located in Singapore and assets are delivered through a content delivery network.

3SkyDOS today

The island

The whole world is a floating artificial island, 9.6 km across, hovering above a sea of clouds. At its centre stands the 900 m Zun tower. Around the tower is a circular city; beyond the city is nature: mountains, waterfalls, lakes, meadows, forests and a zoo. Krao Center, a nine-pointed star building, is the landmark whose position has been kept through every replanning. A second island, SkyDOS 2, is under construction.

Live for everyone

Underwater World

A diving sea more than 1 km deep with 9 terrain types and a 9-stop educational tour ending at a 30 m blue whale and the wreck of the Titanic.

Krao Center and the gallery

36 public domain masterpieces at actual size; in a headset you can pull a painting closer with both hands.

Sightseeing

Sightseeing flights, hot-air balloons, safari vehicles, a waterfall trail, guided walks, and Sky Pillar Mountain (Thiên Trụ), 1,300 m.

Zoo and Dinosaur Valley

A large zoo with a dinosaur area you can walk through.

Sky Jump and Wings

Jump from the 888 m deck; fly by flapping your real arms like wings while wearing a headset.

Dragon Riding, Glider Racing, Off-road

Fly on a dragon's back, race gliders online, drive a model of a real GAZ-69 on dirt roads.

Sky Show

600 drones drawing in the night sky, with special programmes for holidays.

Membership and Passport

No sign-up needed to visit; points, ranks and a passport stamped at every place you have been.

24-hour feedback

Send feedback from inside the world, even while wearing a headset; every ticket gets a response within 24 hours.

In progress or in internal preview

Endless Wedding (a wedding celebration that never stops, a symbolic ceremony), Noah's Ark and the Guestbook Pillar, Common Flagpole, Member Globe, SkyDOS landed on Mars, the Living Wax Museum, My Lion, the World Dance Ball, Cloud Lake fishing, the Gate of 108 Worlds and more (see the Idea catalogue).

A single menu tree is shared across every device, split into three groups, Sightseeing · Entertainment · Settings, plus a "Here" tab that changes with where you stand. In a headset, the Menu and Map cluster stays fixed in space at the lower right while you walk, and follows your view while you ride or fly.

4Technology

The "bake everything" philosophy

All expensive computation (global illumination, ambient occlusion, soft shadows, reflections) is done in advance with an offline renderer and stored as lightmaps. The headset only displays. This is how scenes look photographic while still running at 90 frames per second on a headset.

LayerTechnology
On-device runtimePlayCanvas Engine, TypeScript, Vite, WebXR
Content creationBlender driven by automated scripts, lighting computed with Cycles on the GPU
Trees, statues, distant sceneryGaussian Splats, with mesh and impostor fallbacks
FormatsKTX2 textures, meshopt-compressed meshes, commercially licensed models in a proprietary encrypted format
ServerNode.js API, SQLite database, real-time WebSocket, hourly backups

Hard rules

  • True scale: 1 unit = 1 m; stair steps 0.17 m, doors 2.2 m, ceilings 3–3.5 m, traffic lanes 3.5 m.
  • Headset budget: at most about 500 draw calls and one million visible triangles at 90 frames per second; no post-processing in virtual reality.
  • Static baked lighting: late afternoon, around 4:30 pm, with the sun in the west-southwest.
  • Nine languages: English (source), Tiếng Việt, 中文, Español, 日本語, 한국어, Français, Deutsch, Português; no hard-coded strings.
  • Every piece of content has a clear source: CC0, public domain, CC-BY with attribution, or purchased models with a commercial licence for interactive applications.

Licensed 3D assets, no AI-generated models

SkyDOS uses only clearly licensed assets, with full attribution on the Sources and licences page. Paintings come from the public domain collections of major museums. The project does not use AI-generated 3D models. Purchased models are delivered only in SkyDOS's own encrypted format, with no raw model files on the web and no export function.

5Idea catalogue

Every SkyDOS idea has a permanent identifier SKYDOS-IDEA-NNNN, assigned once and never reused, together with a full dossier in Vietnamese (the original) and English. The first-stated date comes from a verifiable timestamp in the project history. The catalogue below is generated automatically from those dossiers.

6Open platform

6.1 Your own world, built with AI (SKYDOS-IDEA-0037)

Every member gets a private world for free: an infinitely extending plane divided into 100 m cells, where unbuilt cells use no storage. Members build by talking to artificial intelligence, right inside the 3D world: using the SkyDOS assistant, or plugging in their own AI from any provider through an open tool protocol. The permissions granted to the AI only allow it to edit that member's own world. An AI without tool protocol support can still be used through "Paste a plan" mode.

  • Reuse in 4 tiers: what SkyDOS makes itself (code, designs, logic, self-built models) is licensed for reuse, excluding the brand; CC0 is free to use; CC-BY comes with automatic attribution; purchased models are shown only in worlds hosted by SkyDOS.
  • No lock-in: members can export their world to open files (except purchased models).
  • Age: building from age 16, making a world public from age 18, with moderation.

6.2 SkyDOS Gate Standard: an open standard for gates between metaverses (SKYDOS-IDEA-0054)

An open, neutral standard that lets any metaverse project connect to others with nothing more than one true-scale teleport door. The standard specifies only three things:

  1. Coordinate system and height datum: metres, Y axis up, world north is −Z; the gate plot surface sits at that world's mean sea level.
  2. Geometry: a 1 × 1 m square plot, a clear door opening of 0.9–1.0 × 2.1–2.2 m, a destination sign on the front and a way-back sign on the rear; you pass through by stepping, pointing or tapping.
  3. Descriptor file and hand-off: each world publishes /.well-known/metaverse-gate.json over HTTPS; travellers are handed off via a link that carries no keys or personal data, are always asked before leaving and always have a way back.

On the SkyDOS side, members' doors stand at the 9-frame Gate Harbour (Bến Cổng) (each person sees their own door in the middle frame) and are multi-destination doors: back to SkyDOS, to another member's world, or out to an external metaverse that follows the standard. A Multiverse Gate (Cổng Đa Vũ Trụ) opens a directory of worlds that follow the standard.

6.3 Proving Ground (SKYDOS-IDEA-0055)

Each test runs in a copy of a district separate from the main world, entered through a door marked "behaviour is being recorded"; visitors out for a walk never become test subjects by accident. Real people and AI characters take part together; options are compared A/B in identical "test universes"; every run can be replayed.

GroupExample tests
Governments, public agenciesSquare and pedestrian street designs; traffic light phasing; signage; fire, flood and evacuation drills
Organisations, businessesProduct prototypes, store layouts, lobby visitor flow, staff training
Education"Be the mayor" simulation classes, school evacuation drills
IndividualsNew game rules, garden paths, how to hang paintings, small shop layouts

Every report prints a confidence scale (T1 Suggestive · T2 Indicative · T3 Cross-checked) and a list of what "could not be measured" on its first page. SkyDOS never writes "proven". Tests of political messaging, propaganda or targeting of individuals are not accepted.

6.4 One world, every device (SKYDOS-IDEA-0056)

The principle is one core, many shells: the world is not rewritten for each device. The roadmap has six phases, and each phase opens only when measurements from real visitors show it is needed:

  1. Installable web app (foundation already in place).
  2. Store apps: Meta Quest headsets → Google Play → App Store.
  3. Tablets, with education and museums first.
  4. Smart TVs, with a phone as the controller via a QR code.
  5. AI glasses as a companion: directions, notifications, taking real photos to hang in the world.
  6. Robots and the Internet of Things: visiting robots, real sensors changing virtual objects, virtual lamps controlling real lamps (only in the owner's own home).

7Community

SkyDOS is designed to give people reasons to come back together:

  • Endless Wedding and Great Noah Family: a wedding celebration that never stops; everyone has a role; the ceremony is symbolic, not a legal marriage.
  • Eternal Proposal: the person proposing chooses private or public, private by default.
  • Noah's Ark and the Guestbook Pillar, Infinity Photo Wall: visitors' traces become lasting objects in the world.
  • Common Flagpole and Member Globe: flags and pins for the countries that have members.
  • Parallel Realities: choose a time universe (day-night cycle, always day, always night) and meet only people you know if you wish.
  • Humans-only private rooms: spaces with no AI unless everyone present allows it.
  • 24-hour feedback: feedback tickets sent from inside the world are read, answered and decided within 24 hours.

8Business model

SkyDOS is a commercial project. Revenue policy (David Do, 28 October 2026): open to every lawful revenue model, with the following commitments.

Commitments to users

  • Individual users are free for roughly the first year (proposed until 31 October 2027); the end date will be announced clearly in advance.
  • Visiting SkyDOS is always free. First-year members lose nothing they have built when paid plans begin.
  • No loot boxes, no NFTs or tokens with monetary value, no sale of virtual land, no sale of personal data.
GroupExpected revenue sourcesTiming
Businesses, organisationsEvent and area sponsorship (labelled "Sponsored"), commissioned brand worlds, event space rental, education, museum and tourism contracts, Proving Ground packagesPossible from the first year
Individual usersMembership plans (more cells, more AI usage, event priority; viewing is never locked), special event tickets, premium wedding and proposal services, merchandise, project supportAfter the first year
Requires legal advice firstCosmetic items, season passes, tips between users, a creator content marketplaceOnce appropriate licences are in place

World creators are rewarded in three steps: points → a fixed pilot fund → a revenue percentage once the platform is reliably breaking even.

9Safety, legal, ethics

  • Age: building worlds from age 16, making them public from age 18; under-16s are not subjects of the Proving Ground.
  • Moderation: a report button in every public world; content removed within 24 hours when a report is substantiated.
  • Minimal data: only what a feature needs is recorded; tests use a separate anonymous code for each run, with the right to withdraw and delete.
  • Travel between worlds carries no keys or personal data; you are always asked before leaving.
  • Religious neutrality: religious exhibitions present many traditions without ranking them; AI characters do not try to persuade users on politics or religion.
  • No gambling: points and badges cannot be exchanged for money.
  • Legal: higher-risk models (virtual items, payments between users, cross-border data) are introduced only after legal advice under Vietnamese law and the law where servers are located.

10Proof of authorship on a blockchain

The full text of the SkyDOS idea dossiers (the original Vietnamese and the English versions) is planned to be recorded publicly on the 9Chain blockchain starting on 1 November 2026, signed by the author, David Do:

  • each idea file is normalised (UTF-8, Unicode NFC, LF line endings) so anyone can recompute the exact SHA-256 hash;
  • the content of each file is recorded in a transaction on the A1 network; an index transaction lists the hashes and transactions of every file;
  • the Merkle root of the whole set is recorded in a transaction memo on the C1 network.

This record is proof of time that the content existed no later than the moment it was recorded; it does not replace copyright or trademark registration. Later changes are published as new versions that point back to the previous version; recorded versions are never altered.
